Little Omran and the media at work in Aleppo

Omran, the little boy in the Aleppo ambulance, is but one personal tragedy documented by local media workers in Syria. A photographer from IMS partner Aleppo Media Center (AMC) followed in the footsteps of Support Syria Civil Defence, also known as The White Helmets, rescuing Omar and his family.

Despite shortage of fuel, electricity and internet access AMC gets worldwide attention to the important work of The White Helmets and the plight of Aleppo’s children.

“Documenting and communicating the dire human consequences that this terrible war is having on its people is a key role for media. The journalists at AMC are ensuring that this vital information is being produced under extremely difficult conditions. Continued support to them is crucial to ensure that people inside and outside Syria have access to information from more than one source in order to understand this complex war,” says Henrik Grunnet, IMS Syria program manager.

IMS works with AMC and other pockets of Syrian media outlets to ensure production and dissemination of diverse, fair and relevant quality news from inside Syria.
