Environmental Investigative Journalism: Challenges and Successes

In 2023, EIF (Environmental Investigative Forum) led a global consultation on current understanding, successes and challenges linked to environmental investigative journalism, in partnership with IMS and with the support of the Journalism Fund Europe.

The report is based on the results of a global survey and the conclusions drawn from multiple online sessions led with Oxpeckers (South Africa), ARIJ (MENA), Info Nile (Nile Basin), CENOZO (West Africa) and The Third Pole (South East Asia), as featured during the last Global Investigative Journalism Conference (GIJC).

It notably advocates for the notion of environmental investigative journalism as a field on its own to which climate journalism can’t fully substitute itself to and establishes clear needs for cross-regional collaboration, funding and networking opportunities on a global scale to be taken into account by newsrooms, investigative networks and donors alike.
