IMS welcomes new Board members

IMS is proud to welcome four new Board members.

The new members of the Board are Heba Gamal Vice President, Enterprise Product and Corporate Development at Rocket Lawyer in the USA; Nighat Dad, Executive Director of Digital Rights Foundation in Pakistan; Ashnah Kalemera, Collaboration on International ICT Policy for East and Southern Africa at Cipesa in Uganda; and Guy Berger, an independent media expert from South Africa and former Director of Freedom of Expression and Media Development at UNESCO.

Eva Grambye will serve as Acting Board Chair and Mette Thygesen as Acting Board Vice Chair until new leadership is formally elected.

The new Board members were chosen following a recommendation and review process through an IMS working group. They join current Board members:

  • Eva Grambye (Acting Board Chair), Executive Director, Strategy, Programme and Learning, Danish Refugee Council (Denmark).
  • Tine Johansen, President, Danish Journalist Union (Denmark).
  • Moukhtar Kocache, Independent adviser and consultant (Lebanon/USA).
  • Henrik Prethun Berggen, Head of Institute, Institute of Journalism, Danish School of Media and Journalism (Denmark).
  • Mette Thygesen (Acting Board Vice Chair), International Director, Danish Institute of Human Rights (Denmark).
  • According to IMS statutes, the Association of Danish Media is mandated a Board representative. When a new director of the Association of Danish Media is appointed, we anticipate that they will join the IMS board.

IMS also wishes to extend its sincerest thanks to outgoing Board members Andrew Puddephat, Gene Kimmelman and Mads Brandstrup.

Andrew Puddephat joined the IMS Board upon its founding in 2001 and has served as Chair since 2012. Gene Kimmelman joined the Board in 2011. Mads Brandstrup joined in 2021. We thank them for their many contributions and years of service.
