Copenhagen Conference on Information Integrity

Defending information integrity: A battle we cannot afford to lose.

A perfect storm is battering information ecosystems worldwide: Disinformation supercharged by AI. A lack of universal laws and regulations to reign in hateful and divisive content. Rampant killings and persecution of journalists with almost all perpetrators walking free. Independent news media on the verge of financial collapse.

These are just some of the factors threatening to undermine information ecosystems everywhere.

But even as disinformation and mistrust are gaining ground, local, regional and global actors are joining forces across the world to ensure access to accurate, trustworthy and timely information.

On 11 and 12 November, the Copenhagen Conference on Information Integrity will bring together a global line up of civil society leaders, thinks tanks, media and data innovators, alternative social media platforms, pre- and debunking experts and many more to share, discuss and develop tangible solutions to the many threats facing the integrity of information ecosystems across the world.

Co-organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, the Digital Democracy Initiative and IMS (International Media Support), the conference takes place at a time when Denmark holds the presidency of the Council of the European Union.

Says Marie Bjerre, Denmark’s minister for European Affairs.

“Information integrity is a cornerstone of democracy. When facts are twisted and trust erodes, democracy itself is at risk. No government, company or organisation can solve this challenge alone. We must work together – across borders and sectors – to rebuild trust and safeguard the integrity of our shared information space. The Copenhagen Conference on Information Integrity is our chance to turn concern into cooperation, and ideas into action.”

Ms Bjerre is supplemented by IMS executive director Jesper Højberg:

“We need to find new ways to enhance digital democracy and provide alternative solutions to the current big tech dominance. That is why we’re putting trail blazers, innovators and experts under one roof to inspire all of us and identify solutions that are actionable and scalable.

The conference has an ambitious focus on bringing forth recommendations – in the shape of scalable solutions – to promote the global information integrity agenda”.
