Leading the way in Tunisia

What does it take to become a true frontrunner in journalism? A group of Tunisian journalists and editors are about to find out as they take part in the Media Innovateurs course, launched by IMS’ partner the African Centre for Training of Journalists and Communicators (CAPJC)

“A media innovateur is like a change-maker in the media development field. Over six months, the media innovateurs will obtain the core skills it takes to become frontrunners within journalism, learning and change,” senior journalist and trainer Lars Møller told Tunisian media professionals gathered by CAPJC.

The six-month course is offered to media professionals who want to spearhead the future of journalism in Tunisia.

The Danish mid-career training centre for journalists, UPDATE, will conduct the course in partnership with CAPJC.

Starting in March, the course is organised in six modules comprised of classes, group work and individual assignments.

Media Innovateurs is part of a comprehensive process undertaken by CAPJC to restructure and upgrade the organisation so that it can better respond to existing and emerging needs and challenges faced by Tunisian media.

“Over the past year, we have continuously consulted Tunisian media stakeholders on priority areas for the sector and how they saw CAPJC acting on those. We have defined key strategic orientations to enable CAPJC to provide targeted, innovative training modules and consultancy, including in-house. We also want to facilitate important professional debates and support ethical journalism in Tunisia,” CAPJC Director General Abdelkarim Hizaoui told IMS.
