Training manual on safety and ethics for Bangladesh’s gen Z content creators

Bangladesh’s information ecosystem is being reshaped by rapid digital growth and the expanding influence of social media. At the start of 2025, 77.7 million people were using the internet, while the country had 60 million social media user identities. A large share of these users are young people who increasingly rely on digital platforms not only to access news and information, but also to express ideas, build communities and mobilise around shared concerns.

Within this changing landscape, content creators have emerged as influential public communicators. Through Facebook, YouTube, TikTok and other platforms, they reach diverse audiences and contribute to conversations on issues that matter to society. However, many creators continue to work without formal recognition, professional support or adequate access to guidance on ethics, editorial standards, safety and responsible communication. They may also face physical, digital, legal and psychosocial risks that can affect both their work and wellbeing. Developed for gen Z content creators in Bangladesh, this practical manual responds to these needs. It offers clear guidance, relatable examples, useful tools, checklists, activities and insights from fellow creators. Each section is concise and can be used independently, allowing readers to find relevant support when they need it.

IMS (International Media Support), in partnership with News Network, developed this manual through a consultative process to support content creators and influencers in strengthening their platforms, producing content responsibly, protecting themselves and others and building greater trust with their audiences. The manual provides a practical resource for navigating today’s rapidly evolving digital environment with confidence, care and purpose, while contributing to a safer, more ethical and inclusive information ecosystem.
