Promoting Iraqi investigative journalism online

The first of its kind in Iraq, the website of the Network for Iraqi Reporters for Investigative Journalism seeks to promote investigative journalism online and across language barriers

Launched in mid-June in English, Arabic and Kurdish, the site contains investigations done by both aspiring and experienced Iraqi investigative journalists, and lets readers follow stories on corruption, mismanagement of funds and power across Iraq. All investigations are translated to allow both Arabic speaking Iraqis as well as those of the Iraqi Kurdistan region of the country to stay informed.

International readers are also welcome on the site where English translations of the investigations provide an insight into the Iraqi experience of investigative reporting while giving international journalists a chance to follow the many exposés in the country.

“We hope this site opens a window for more Iraqi journalists interested in investigative reporting to learn about international experiences in the field, while also letting international visitors gain a better understanding of the issues in the Iraqi society” says the investigative network NIRIJ in a press release
