

Short Term Consultancy
Media Support Solutions (MSS) is in increasing demand for short term consultancy in the fields of development communications and media development. MSS has undertaken media assessments and evaluations in the UK, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, China, Sudan, DR Congo, Rwanda, Nigeria and Somalia. Work for NGOs, UN other bi-lateral agencies has taken MSS consultants to Madagascar, Cambodia, Guyana, Ethiopia and Uganda. Short term work ranges from producing publications on DFID’s role in Afghanistan to providing radio production training for technical staff to NGOs in southern Madagascar, and running media campaigns on topics such as illegal migration.

Examples of services that the MSS consortium can provide - Reviewing proposals submitted to DFID for their communications components, making them integral to development programmes
- Developing strategies for an independent, free and responsible media
- Devising communications strategies for poverty reduction strategy papers
- Training in development communications skills for DFID staff, DFID partners and their staff; harmonising development communications experiences across the DFID offices for presentation at higher level forums.
- Training/consultancy on managing crises and coping with fast-onset disasters.
- Conflict-sensitive/ peace-building broadcasting skills (training and implementing)
- Media business management and participation in development.
- Developing public service broadcasting networks, and democratic legal and regulatory frameworks
- Developing strategies to assist governments link public and private media initiatives.
- Developing strategies and systems of media coverage to gain access to remote areas and feedback channels for participation from rural and civil society.
